Los Roques

By Ewan | March 31, 2009

From Margarita we had a pleasant overnight sail to the archipelago of Los Roques. This is a stunning group of low lying islands. We tucked into one of the cays right at the western end and shared a small anchorage with a motor yacht the first night, but after they left the following morning, we had the place to ourselves.
With nowhere to shop and no bars we amused ourselves snorkelling, exploring, windsurfing, and even an experimental paddle out to a reef break. Discretion proved to be the better part of valour and I paddled back in without trying to catch a wave – not ready yet for a wave that breaks onto dry reef…!
