About us
Ewan…
Has been sailing since before he can remember, mostly in Hong Kong in the early days. Later jobs with Sunworld, Neilson and Club Vass took him to Turkey, Greece and the UK.
Although instructing days are basically now over, he still gets on the water whenever possible, mostly windsurfing or surfing. (He’ll be taking a couple of boards and sails on the boat and looking for any opportunity to flame a few more spocks/get munched by a new and different wave).
Yachting experience includes crossing the atlantic on the ARC with the family last year (arguably the cause of this whole thing!), cruising in the Caribbean, Med, Hong Kong and the UK, with some varied low key racing along the way.
It would be fair to say that unusual holidays and adventures run in the family (thanks!).
When he’s not working towards the trip Ewan works for the Carbon Trust, surfs and windsurfs, does a part time masters in sustainable stuff and eats and sleeps.
Duncan…
I have sailed from the age of 8, with the enduring memory of taking my little sister out in a mirror dinghy and being told by my parents to come in if it “blew up”. At that age I was somewhat taken aback by the explosive nature of dinghy sailing, and spent a good five minutes inspecting the boat for dynamite.
Between the ages of fourteen and eighteen I race Laser dinghies, and learnt the basic principles of sailing. More recently I have sailed across the Pacific in a 47ft race boat named “Ain’t Misbehavin’”, returning to her once to find a neighbouring crew had crossed out the “Ain’t” with insulating tape, I have no idea what the reason for this was. I was on the boat through Tobago, Trinidad, Panama (through the canal), Galapagos Islands, Marquesas Islands, Tuomotos, Tahiti, Bora Bora, a few other archipelagos, atolls & islands, Tonga, and finally Fiji.
I passed my RYA/MCA Coastal Skipper exam a year later (2004), and have been occupying weekends since skippering 40+ foot yachts for my company Yacht club in the Solent.
When not playing with boats, I work as a management consultant, specialising in project management for telcos and web projects.

Thought you’d like to know that your mother and I have the “Blow up” episode on video. Think it was in 1991. Would you like it for the website?….
